About these tendencies

Overall Tendency

A historical assignment-associated tendency in team fouls per 100 possessions, relative to that season’s reference. The estimate accounts for co-referees and the model’s included game-context terms.

Qualification and reliability

A season needs 12 games to qualify. NQ means not qualified; its numeric tendency and percentile are withheld. Statistical reliability is the saved season-specific label, separate from games and qualification.

Multi-season Tendency

A games-weighted mean of qualified-season tendencies from 2023-24 to 2025-26. At least two qualified seasons are required. Only qualified seasons contribute to qualified games.

Percentiles

Annual percentiles compare qualified referees in the same season. Multi-season percentiles compare 38 eligible referees. Blue indicates lower and red higher historical foul tendency; neither means better officiating.

Intervals

Saved 95% normal-approximation intervals describe uncertainty in estimated tendencies, not future single-game prediction ranges. Annual numeric intervals are not displayed.
